Heidi Klum was conceived in the German city of Bergisch Gladbach in June of 1973. Her mother Erna had a career as a hairdresser. Gunther Kum was the manager of an organization that dealt in cosmetics. Heidi's father worked as an Operations Manager at the company 4711. Heidi grew at Bergisch Gladbach which is a town with a population of 70,000, just 6 miles east of Cologne. Former German-American model, Heidi Klum has become an actress and a host on television. Klum's career as a model started in 1992 when Klum worked in the Dusseldorf Discotheque. An acquaintance (Karin) was encouraging the young student of 18 to participate in an German TV talent show called Model 92. It was part of a Thomas Gottschalk hosted late night talk show. Klum faced off against 25,000 contestants in Germany, Europe and beyond until she made it to the top three. Klum was awarded a top $300,000 model prize in the month of April, 1992.
